Pickup trucks carry the highest average complete monthly cost of any vehicle category CarCostCX tracks, $1,770 a month. Against that backdrop, three compact and mid-size trucks stand out as genuine value leaders.
The Complete Monthly Cost Breakdown
The 2026 Ford Maverick XL ranks first at $1,033 a month, 41.6% below the segment average, driven by a $27,936 purchase price that keeps the loan payment well under the typical truck financing cost. The 2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz SE ranks second at $1,055 a month, another compact pickup with a similar cost profile. The 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Work Truck rounds out the top three at $1,095 a month, the only mid-size entry in the group and still 38.1% below the segment average.
The pattern across all three is consistent: buyers who do not need full-size towing or payload capacity save significantly by choosing a compact or mid-size truck. The gap between these three and a typical full-size truck is not a matter of trim level or options, it comes down to the base vehicle's price and the loan payment that follows from it.
